What do Migraines, TMJ and facial age lines have in common?

Botox.
What’s the first thing you think of when you hear that word?  I’ll make you a wager that it was cosmetics, getting rid of facial age lines and wrinkles.  Botox makes you look younger.  Of course that’s what you thought of since it’s heavily advertised to do those cosmetic niceties and it does an excellent job of living up to its claims.  We have seen some wonderful cosmetic results.  Our patient’s love their results.

Let’s now do a paradigm shift and introduce you to another aspect of Botox, the therapeutic side. We are also using Botox to aid in our treatment of headaches, migraines, facial pain and TMJ (jaw joint) patients. Since it works to relax muscles that cause these problems the same way it relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines, the facial and head pain can be dramatically reduced.  Additionally, unlike medicines that are taken regularly for migraines, like Imitrex, single Botox injections last months.  More info can be found at this link.        http://www.migraines.org/treatment/probotox.htm
Botox can be useful when doing smile makeovers. While straight white teeth are extremely important, lip position, shape and fullness are what give you a pleasing smile. Do you have a “gummy” smile? Perhaps if we relax those muscles that raise your lip too high we can affect a more pleasing lip line/smile which enhances those new veneers, or bleaching, or crowns…etc.
Botox and dermal fillers can take nice teeth and turn them into a magnificent smile with beautifully natural looking facial esthetics!
