The Importance Of Oral Cancer Screenings!

Oral Cancer: Detect it Early!

Oral cancer is an unpleasant but very important topic. I have trouble blogging about it since I lost a dear friend to this horrible disease.

All the more important to discuss it.

We know that tobacco usage, either from smoking or chewing, is a large instigator of this disease as is excessive alcohol usage. With the incidence of oral cancer on the rise, research has shown that even if you do not smoke or drink you are still at risk. It is more important than ever for patients to receive oral cancer screenings from their dental team. At our office, Dentistry In Philadelphia, we routinely screen all hygiene patients, as well as new patients on a regular basis.

If detected early, oral cancer has a 80% survival rate within 5 years. The picture becomes much grimmer the longer the disease is undetected.

If your dentist does not screen for oral cancer you should ask him why or better yet find a dentist that does them routinely. The life you save may be your own.
